Jackson Pollock pointed out the importance of sheer vitality. The universe ceaselessly boils, surges, swirls, and transforms. That same tremendous energy courses through arteries and sparks between nerves in each human body. It is not trivial. It is at the heart of who we are as living beings. When artists discuss "realism" in painting, this sort of work is what I think about. In my opinion, this painting is absolutely "realistic." It is a portrait of pure energy.
